Suboxone has been approved for use with heroin, methadone and other opiate detox. The active ingredient buprenorphine hydrochloride reduces the symptoms of heroin detox. Suboxone is a combination of two proven medications, buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine, a partial opioid agonist, reduces withdrawal symptoms and blocks the effects of subsequently administered opiates, suggesting it might help reduce illicit opiate use. Due to the presence of naloxone, Suboxone is very likely to produce severe withdrawal symptoms if misused intravenously. When used as prescribed, no such effect is likely.

What Dr. Poncy has to say:
"South Florida offers the full spectrum of substance abuse treatment facilities including detox centers, rehabilitation centers, and sober living facilities," said Dr. Poncy. Detox facilities like Sunrise Detox help alcoholics and addicts get through withdrawals safely and comfortably. Getting over the physical addiction to drugs or alcohol is the vital first step in recovery. "Once people are detoxed, we help them choose a rehabilitation program that is appropriate based on their unique situation."
"Most of our drug detox and alcohol detox patients live in Florida, but many also come from New York and New Jersey because it is easy to travel from there to Florida," said Dr. Morgan Poncy. "We also get patients from across the country and even internationally."
